MethodsEducation is an undisputed tool for social development. Through all of DMI's programs, an emphasis is placed on educational tools, including correspondence, workshops, resources and technical assistance. The following is a list of the methods in which DMI can implement positive change in residential areas: Advocacy for residents involved in revitalizing their neighborhood. The goals of this project include making the housing stock, whether new or restored, available to the people living in the neighborhood currently. DMI would advocate throughout this process for the current resident ensuring that property would be available for them. Reliance on historic preservation. DMI works through the guidance of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. We would rely on the expertise of the National Trust for preservation of any historically significant properties. We would advocate for historic buildings through this process and work hard to see that a limited number of buildings are demolished. Collaborating with other organizations. Because of the amount of interest on this project it is very important that all organizations and individuals who have an interest in revitalizing this neighborhood are included in this process. DMI would ensure that all view points are heard and that all organizations maintain communication. Utilizing local talent and skill. DMI will contact many local individuals and groups to attempt to utilize their talent both on a volunteer and contract basis. This includes entities such as the Mansfield City Schools, Pioneer Schools, Madison Vocational School, RICI, MANCI, NC State College, local architects, builders associations and other local businesses. Obtain products and services for reduced costs as donations. We will work with local retailers and service providers to collaborate as partners in the project in exchange for advertising and promotion of products. Work with realtors on marketing. The Mansfield Board of Realtors to market and attract homeowners to the area. Provide financial counseling to prospective homeowners. Work through the City of Mansfield in the creation and maintenance of an ongoing education process for potential homeowners in the community. Educate prospective homeowners on ongoing maintenance and code requirements. Provide information necessary for prospective homeowners to understand the appropriate and legal necessary upkeep of properties. Continue education efforts with property owners. Provide workshops and ongoing training on issues related to home maintenance and upkeep as required by code, zoning and the historic preservation commission.
