The goals of the St. Peter's District plan for DMI include the following:
- To restore existing housing stock
- To encourage infill housing that is compatible with existing houses
- To address green space surrounding housing and streets
- To encourage home ownership through programs that assist current residents in purchasing property
- To market the neighborhood to prospective home owners throughout the City
- To establish increased connectivity between neighborhood development and downtown retail
- To recruit new retail in downtown that addresses the needs of the residents
